The scene
At the presidential inauguration in January 2021, AFP photographer Brendan Smialowski captured Senator Bernie Sanders sitting alone in a practical parka and hand-knitted mittens.
The cut-out Bernie was photoshopped into countless scenes, from paintings to film stills. The mittens were made by teacher Jen Ellis.
